The Google Authenticator code for 2FA is not working

Updated over 2 months ago

If your 2FA code is not working, consider these possible reasons:

  • Expired code: 2FA codes are time-sensitive. Ensure you are using the most recently generated code.

  • Incorrect Authenticator: verify that you are using a code from the Authenticator app you configured specifically for ApprovalMax. Codes generated for other applications will not work.

  • 2FA reset: if you have disabled and re-enabled 2FA in ApprovalMax, the existing authentication record is invalidated. You'll need to set up a new 2FA connection from scratch. This involves deleting the old record and scanning the QR code again.

  • Incomplete setup: returning to a previous page during the initial 2FA setup can invalidate the authentication record. If this happens, delete the existing record and start the 2FA setup process again from the beginning.

  • Time synchronisation issue (Google Authenticator): the Google Authenticator app relies on accurate time synchronisation. If the time on your app is incorrect, the generated codes will be invalid.

Here's how to synchronise the time:

For Android Devices:

  1. Open your phone’s Settings.

  2. Go to Date & Time

  3. Ensure network-provided time is enabled.

For iOS (Apple iPhone) users:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone

  2. Select General

  3. Select Date & Time

  4. Enable Set automatically

Following these steps should resolve the most common 2FA issues in ApprovalMax and ensure access to your account. If you continue to experience problems, please contact the ApprovalMax Support for further assistance.
