Why can I not offboard a user? (Xero)

If, while setting replacements during offboarding, you see below message:

you'll need to check your approval workflows (including inactive ones) and select at least one Approver/Requester per step.

The reason for this error is that for Organisations created in or before 2020 it was possible to save workflows even without any Approver/Requester selected for the steps. Currently, when you try to replace a user in such workflows, the system does not allow to save this change and returns an error.

After setting at least one Approver/Requester per step in your approval workflows (also in inactive
ones), you'll be able to offboard users and select replacements from such workflows.
